A practical fix for a job nobody enjoyed doing
Blackbird was founded by aviation maintenance veterans with a combined three decades on the shop floor. The masking kits exist because they were the ones standing over a wheel with a razor blade and a roll of tape, listening to paint shops complain about the same problem, shift after shift.
Rather than start from a marketing brief, Blackbird started from a maintenance manual. Every kit is built to hold up to the tolerances in the OEM overhaul manual for its airframe — because a masking tool that doesn’t meet spec isn’t a shortcut, it’s a liability.
Nearly two decades later, that’s still the whole premise: less time under tape, more consistent results, fewer injuries, and a tool that gets reused thousands of times instead of thrown away after one cycle.
